Creating a Custom Feed on Blue Sky

Audience: This is for users who are looking for a quick and simple run down on how to get started on creating a custom feed. If you are looking to do more advanced things, I’d suggest starting here and then venturing out to new things.

There are various ways to create Feeds on BlueSky. There are approaches where you can do all the heavy lifting yourself, this is far more involved, but it will let you create the EXACT feed you’re looking for. For everyone else(like me) that is lazy and just wants to use something that’s simple to use, I’d recommend one of the following apps

  • Graze

  • SkyFeed

These are the two most popular apps. I have personally used them both. IMO, SkyFeed use to be the easiest/best but with recent updates by Graze, I have found that it is easier to use and offers more options. It also has a monetization feature that’s really easy to use.

Once you’ve decided which of the apps you are going to use above, you are going to need to sign in to them. To create an account on both of these apps, you are going to see something asking for a username/password, but the password is not your bluesky password. The password you’re looking for is called an App Password.

The Bluesky App Password is the password that needs to be generated out of BlueSky itself. To do this, you must first log in to Blue Sky and head over to your Settings > Privacy and Security.

Inside of Privacy and Security, you will notice a section called App passwords, this is where you will be creating your App Password for above.

This is now the page you want to be when it comes to creating new app passwords. The process to right now will work for any Third Party app that is looking for your BlueSky password. Once in here, you will want to click Add App Password.

A pop-up will come up asking you to enter a Unique Name. You do not have to have this name make any sense, it can be whatever you want. I personally put the name of the app that it’s for, otherwise I would forget. You will NOT be able to view this password again once you close this page. That said, if you forget your password or lose it. You can repeat the above process and just create it again. You could create 100 of them in a row if you wanted. It doesn’t matter.

Once you’ve named your App Password, click Next

You will now want to take that password and paste it in to your App Password spot on Graze(or whatever app you used).

Congratulations, you have officially logged in to Graze and can no begin working on your custom feed! There are two options to create your own feed, one is manually which allows you to drag and drop things you want. The other is to use their Ai to generate one. I’ve never tried the Ai version of this so I can not recommend it.

Once you are happy with your feed, hit Publish, and it will officially be available to you on BlueSky
